What is the goal of the program?
Designed to provide early career researchers (ECR) in psychology with the opportunity to train as a peer reviewer under the guidance of an experienced mentor, the British Psychological Society’s ECR Reviewer Mentoring Program helps build reviewing expertise, enriching research knowledge and skills.
How does the program work?
Applicants are invited to complete an online form for the BPS journal most appropriate to their subject expertise. Applicants will need to have been awarded a doctorate in psychology or a nearly related field, and to hold a teaching or research post in an academic institution for no more than 8 years. Applicants are also required to have published at least three articles, including one for which they are the first or corresponding author.
If successful, the ECR reviewer will receive initial training in best practice in peer review through the Wiley Reviewer Academy, with additional and on-going support.
Once the initial training is successfully completed, the ECR reviewer will be assigned to a mentor on the appropriate journal. As a submitted manuscript is allocated to the ECR reviewer they will work one-on-one with the mentor to create a peer review report. Once a number of successful reviews are completed, the Editor-in-Chief will have the option to assign the ECR as an independent reviewer on the journal.
